Is it painful?
Gravity of pain actually depends on the person’s pain threshold. But according to clinical studies, the majority of participants who have undergone this procedure, report minimal pain.*¹
How long is the procedure?
Generally, these treatments take about 30 minutes or less, unless you have advanced sun damage. If that’s the case, the treatment mayl be longer. The exact duration depends on your individual condition.*
The two types of fractional lasers for skin resurfacing that are comonly used are carbon dioxide (CO2) and erbium.
CO2 laser is considered an effective procedure for treatment of wrinkles, removing fine lines, decrease the appearance of deep wrinkles, acne scars, and smooth the skin.¹ Typically, treatment sessions last 15 to 90 minutes. With laser skin resurfacing healing time may take up to one to four months and will require sun protection with a high SPF sunscreen for up to six months.*
Erbium is less intense and gentler fractional laser compared to other technologies. Recovery times are generally quicker with erbium laser treatment and patients usually experience less pain and swelling. Healing and final results with erbium laser for skin resurfacing treatment are typically seen within one to four weeks.*²

Laser Acne Treatments
Laser skin resurfacing is often incorporated in professional acne treatments. Fractionated lasers can improve acne in many ways. The laser can destroy the bacteria that is correlated with acne. It can also stimulate cellular renewal, triggering the skin to slough off its dead skin cells which are notorious for clogging pores. Gentle laser treatments, such as Clear + Brilliant can also minimize pores. Studies show that a stronger laser, such as Fraxel is helpful in diminishing the appearance of scars, and is comonly used in treating people with acne scars.
Laser Resurfacing with Clear + Brilliant
Clear and Brilliant delivers a gentle laser that penetrates the top most layers of skin, stimulating cellular turnover and collagen production. Collagen strengthens the skin, keeping it tight and free of wrinkles and fine lines. And cellular turnover triggers the body to replace dead skin cells, which clog pores and dull complexions, with a fresh layer of skin that is younger and more radiant looking. Because Clear + Brilliant is a less aggressive laser than Fraxel, it is ideal for preventative skin care, treating fine lines and small wrinkles, melasma and minor skin blemishes caused by sun damage. Laser Resurfacing with Fraxel
Fraxel laser resurfacing uses a more aggressive laser than Clear + Brilliant. It penetrates deeper into the skin, making it more effective for diminishing brown spots, creating even skin tone, and minimizing wrinkles and fine lines. Fraxel is also very effective at reducing the appearance of acne scars and other types of scars such as stretch marks.
While no procedure is completely void of risk, when a qualified, experienced professional performs laser resurfacing, complications are rare and are usually minor. Though rare, some of the risks associated with laser resurfacing include: burns, scarring and lightening/darkening of the treated skin area from the heat of the laser.*¹
